From 1979 to 1981, he was a visiting professor at Columbia University and West Virginia University in the United States, where he taught Polymerization Reaction engineering for graduate students and conducted scientific research on fluidization engineering at Morgan City Energy Technology Center, where he proposed a four-zone model of gas-solid fluidized bed.

In 1983, together with SINOPEC, Zhejiang University and East China Institute of Chemical Technology, he founded the Joint Chemical Reaction Engineering Research Institute and served as the first director. At the same time, he founded the journal Chemical Reaction Engineering and Technology and served as the chief editor.

He was a member of the Academic Committee of Zhejiang University and the director of the Academic Committee of the Department of Chemical Engineering. He was also a member of the Technical and Economic Advisory Committee of China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation, a member of the Chinese Granular Society, a member of the Chemical Engineering Society of China, and an international consultant of the Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering.
