At the end of 1970s, Mr. Chen Gantang, a famous chemical expert in China, founded the Chemical Reaction Engineering Department. 1983, when the Joint Institute was established, Chen Gantang, Lu Dewei, Rong Shunxi and other predecessors put great efforts to carry out research in this new field of olefin polymerization reaction engineering, and this team was formally established, and through more than 40 years of dedicated research and teaching, continuous innovation and talent training, it has become a domestic and international The team has become an innovative research team of olefin polymerization with great influence at home and abroad. The current team leaders are Prof. Yongrong Yang and Prof. Jingdai Wang. Since its establishment, the team has been facing the major technical problems of production enterprises and focusing on the frontier development trends of chemical engineering. With the strong support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Sinopec, PetroChina, Shenhua Group, ExxonMobil, Sabic, etc., the team has conducted research in the fields of olefin polymerization reaction engineering, multiphase flow reactor design, catalytic engineering, product engineering, resource With the strong support of Shenhua Group, ExxonMobil and Sabic, the team has carried out a lot of research work in the fields of olefin polymerization reaction engineering, multiphase flow reactor design, catalytic engineering, product engineering, resource recovery and utilization and process integration, and gradually formed research directions such as catalyst molecular structure, particle morphology, reactor heat and mass transfer, as well as multi-scale research on energy saving and intrinsic safety optimization of the whole system. In particular, over the past 40 years, our team has been dedicated to the basic theoretical research on polyolefin catalysts, olefin polymerization reactors and polymerization processes, on the other hand, we have actively advocated the cooperation between industry, academia and research institutes to continuously improve the capability of technology development and engineering applications, and promoted the development process of new products through collaborative innovation of catalysts and polymerization processes. We have participated in the development of a number of complete sets of process technologies, such as gas-phase polyethylene, slurry polyethylene, high-pressure polyethylene, UHMWPE, vapor-phase polypropylene, etc., and industrialized demonstration applications. We have won 3 national awards, 13 provincial and ministerial awards, and 126 patents granted at home and abroad, 55 of which have been applied industrially.
The goal of the team is to solve major theoretical and application development problems in the process industry using chemical engineering principles and the idea of system optimization and integration, and to teach and educate people in these scientific researches, and to train and exercise PhD students, master students and undergraduates. We have maintained good cooperation with universities and research institutions in the United States, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Canada and other countries, and actively expanded the mode of international cooperation in training graduate students, so that the students in the group become high-level graduate students with international vision and mission, and have assigned students to the University of Twente in the Netherlands, RWTH Aachen University in Germany, Ilmenau University of Technology, the University of California, Berkeley and A The students have been sent to universities such as University of Twente in the Netherlands, RWTH Aachen University in Germany, Technical University of Ilmenau, University of California, Berkeley, and University of Akron for collaborative research with good results.
